Craving momos, I came across Phayul for its raving reviews on Yelp, but unfortunately my experience was contrary to most of the reviewers. I found the service and food to not be as accurate as reflected in the reviews. Perhaps I came at the wrong time when the primary server and cooks were out for the day and the backup server and cooks were in charge or they were simply careless for the night.
We initially ordered beef momos, veggie momos, and the spicy potato appetizer. Turns out the server forgot the inform the kitchen of the beef momos so we waited an extra 15 minutes for the beef momos. No worries. Then realizing the food was not enough we ordered pork with vegetables which was rice free (cannot understand how one could eat the dish without rice). We ordered rice separately. It was served 10 minutes later.
The food was disappointing. The momo's outer layer dough was under cooked and tough, pork with vegetables was over salted, and portions were limited. The service was poor. There was one server for the whole restaurant which consisted of 7 tables and she had difficulty communicating with the kitchen.
The only satisfying dish was the spicy potato. Spicy.
