Brought my car in for a fluid evaluation, they kept my car for a week with periodic calls saying they were looking for where the car was leaking from and then called me with a price of $700 to change a power steering revisor!?!? And then said they would have to change the pump as well even though admittedly said nothing was wrong with it at the time but that it would go soon. Once I refused the work they said I owed them for the labor over $300 that the mechanic had spent his time searching for the leak... Once I refused that the GM Guary said they no longer had my car and didn't know where it was. Once I called corporate they told me I can pick up my car for the original evaluation leak cost of $35.00 but when I came to pick up the car they passive aggressively drained my battery and the car would t start and they told me it would be a while before they can take a look at it!!!! The issue is still ongoing but I wanted t write this review now and let everyone know STAY AWAY FROM PEP BOYS in Heights!!!! STAY FAR FAR FAR AWAY!!!!!

I went to PEP Boys on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ to get a backup camera installed in my car. They did not have what I wanted, so they told me go online, find what I want and purchase it, and then call for an appointment and they would instal it. So, I got home, went online and ordered one that fit my needs.

When I got the backup camera I called the store and made an appointment. I had to cancel the appointment because the day I was supposed to get the installation done I was having a job interview. No problem to cancel. They told me call back and make a new appointment, "...and good luck on the interview!" (Really? They don't know me. WOW!) Had the interview, called to see if they had anything that day, and they come on over. The person who was going to do the installation came up to me while I was in the waiting area. He told me that the camera I had purchased would have to cause them to drill the back of the car. He told me I don't want to do that because when I sell the car there will be a big hole in the rear of the car. Then, and this blew me away, he said he went onto the website of the company I got the backup camera from. They make a camera that gets screwed onto the license pate.

I just got back from having the hole kit and caboodle installed. What a pleasure. Definitely a place to go if you need to have work done on your car. Clean, courteous, and they do the job right.

I have been taking my car to this Pep Boys location for years. I have always found the employees to be trustworthy and skilled. I know nothing about cars and am always worried that my ignorance will be taken advantage of, but this location has earned my trust and loyalty.

Did some repairs on my car, which required removing a wheel, and unfortunately my torque wrench was left at a friend's garage. I tightened it up as best I could with a basic lug wrench and ran into pepboys to have them tighten it (properly).

After a couple quick minutes of waiting in the service area an employee came up to see if I needed help. I explained the situation and without hesitation the employee told me, "If we re-torque your lugs they will be over-tightened". At first I thought he misunderstood, so I more-specifically asked "loosening them up and tightening them to spec will make them overtight?". He said yep.

Wow, that's a new one....

I talked to him for about a minute and finally he said "We'll do it for a $50 service fee". So first it was unsafe, and now $50 will magically make it work? On a side note, I bought the tires there about 4 months ago, which came with the usual free rotations, etc. Guess that doesn't count for anything....

I walked out, drove down to a dealership right down the road, and they did it for me in about 10 seconds. Glad to see that someone cares about safety around here.
