Pep Boys Auto Parts & Service

We've taken our car here for years for tires, and service has been good and reliable... so when our alternator was shutting down we decided to bring it to Pep Boys for service. Its a simple enough problem with a simple solution, right? WRONG 3 days later we are getting the run around about some sort of bolt issue. They can't remove a bolt so they keep spraying something to remove it. When we ask if we can pick up the car to bring it to a more reliable mechanic we are being told "let me give it another shot" The only reason we even get updates is because we call... they won't call us with a status like "we can't remove the fourth bolt" this is the type of lack of service that will make us take our cars elsewhere for tires, oil changes and inspections as we've been doing for years... I wish I read the reviews on here before we made such a terrible choice. If you're reading this review to see if you should bring your car here.. Don't... I know you might assume (like I did) b/c Pep Boys is such a big company the mechanics might actually be honest, but they aren't. Go literally anywhere else...
If its not done tonight we are going to go pick it up and hopefully have it towed elsewhere, just hope they don't cut my brake lines or something.

I visit this PB location strictly because it's the closest location to where I live. The service staff has a mixture of slightly friendly and downright unfriendly employees, so you may encounter a "morning grouch" when you drop off your car, but the afternoon/evening employee might be on the friendlier side.

On my most recent visit, I dropped off my car and told them that I wasn't in a rush to pick it up (because being in possession of my car means that I have to find somewhere to park it). After not receiving any sort of correspondence from them in two days, I decided to call. The PB employee tells me "Oh, hi. I called you twice, but I guess I had the wrong number." Had the employee bothered to look up my PB Rewards account, they would've found my correct contact information.

They also failed to update the oil change reminder sticker on my windshield. Attention to detail is important.

One star is a compliment to the horrible service I received. If I could give 0 I would.

One of the worst experience I've had. Made an appointment for 10 AM. I showed up at 9:40AM and checked in and gave my keys. It is now 1 PM and they just started looking at the car with no courtesy to tell me that all this time my car has not been looked at. I came for an oil change and a slow leak in my front tire. I had to complain in order to get some sort of update. The only excuse they told me was that it is a first come first serve service yet I've seen the lobby clear out twice in the last three hours. Never will I ever use Pepboys for any sort of maintenance for my car.

Bought my tires at Pepboys 3 years ago. Well under the 80K warranty I get two tires leaking air in the back. I visited the Staten Island Pepboys who sealed the left tire in a place where they are not supposed to seal it and didn't even fix the leak on the Right tire. Two days later my low tire indicator when on again. . So I went to my usual Pepboys on 4th Avenue. They completely replaced the left tire because they are the ones who found the bad repair of where the puncture was and I paid $40.00 for a new tire. The staff didn't find the leak on the 2nd tire, so they resealed it. (a lot more effort than the SI Pepboys did) manager Joe called me and told me to come back in. He wanted to make sure the tires were fixed. Joe who made it all better. He personally supervised the staff to make sure the job was done. Joe and the repair guys are awesome. BTW I still prefer this Pepboys over the Staten Island Pepboys in Thank you Joe and staff!
