Oreck Vacuums

I have purchased four Oreck's from this store as my children are now living on their own. I have had nothing but the best experience, including service on a frayed cord. I bought one new for me almost a decade ago and three refurbished for the kids over the last four years and couldn't be more thrilled. Later today, in fact, I will buy another for one of my children ( or a new one for me and pass my current one along :-)

A recent visit to the Oreck store on Rt 17 in Paramus resulted in my making a decision never to return.

I had brought in our upright Oreck vacuum for servicing as it needed a tune-up. When presented with the invoice, I paid in-full and left. Once home, I noticed that my invoice simply identified the vacuum with no further details shown for the tune-up. I called and spoke with Ben, the manager and began asking if he had the ability to list each item that was serviced onto the face of the invoice.

Ben seemed to not understand my question and became argumentative. I then specifically said that I would want to see a revised invoice showing a listing of their work. Ben told me "No.....the customer does not need to see that information...". Ben went on to tell me that I annoyed him. I maintained my composure yet it was clear that he wanted to end the discussion; at that point he disconnected the call. This incident was reported to Oreck, Corporate and, needless to say, I have already found another vacuum service shop, closer to home, and will never return to the Paramus store again.

I've encountered people like Ben in the past; they are incapable of interacting with others on a higher business level other than that which they want to control. Quite simply put, the manager could have just as easily said: "No problem, let me list our work and I'll print out another invoice for you." As a consumer, I believe we reserve the right to being provided with a description of work performed which will assist us in determining when certain components were replace such as belts, roller brushes, seals, etc; management at the Paramus store failed on all accounts.

I don't know why anyone would buy from this local store. The female owner couldn't have been less friendly and curt. They don't know what the phrase customer service means. I brought a vacuum in for service that I purchased from them, not the web, and the turn around time was 10 days. 2 weeks later, without a vacuum in the house I get the unit back with the same problem. Avoid the nasty service and buy from the web if you want an oreck vacuum.
