NYU - Lafayette Hall

For starters, COCKROACHES everywhere. I live on the 17th floor and we had a cockroach infestation of large sized cockroaches and someone even had them coming out their drain! Security may be the rudest bunch of people I have ever met. They treat residents like criminals. The security guard literally hates his job and makes everyone he comes into contact with miserable. I brought a coworker over for dinner, and he claimed her two different photo ideas were not qualified for her to enter the building. I understand security procedures for all the real criminals that lurk outside this building, but it ridiculous not to let a resident’s coworker/best friend in when the resident is begging and the person has two photo ids. The guard forced her to stand outside while I spoke with the resource center. The area outside the building is filled with homeless people, delusional people on crazy drugs, and drunken men verbally harassing young girls. The residence hall director ruled that my situation was not enough of an emergency to accept her two photo ids instead of a state id. She directly endangered my friend’s safety by making her stay outside, and mine as well since I stayed outside with her. It is humiliating when you pay to live somewhere and get treated like a criminal for trying to bring your best friend over for dinner. You pay all money up front to live here, and then the entire semester the security guards and resource center employees will treat you like poorly since they already have your money. In addition, the building is falling apart. Elevators are constantly broken and are not air conditioned. Some of our cabinet doors fell off just from opening them and only half the burners work on our stove. When we moved in there was dead bugs everywhere and water bugs in the toilets.
