Great looking facility inside and out. Much needed upgrade from the Manhattan location on 20th street. This $750 million dollar police training academy in the College Point Corporate Park is state of the art. The complex features indoor shooting ranges, training fields, parking and even a 100,000-square-foot mock-up city for practice simulations. This will be a great tool to train our next generation of police officers. I believe the facility was completed in November of 2014 and the first class of 800 recruits entered in January 2015 and will graduate in September 2015.
The neighborhood that the police academy is in is suffering now because of the increased congestion. With the Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus depot across 28th Avenue from the academy, an NYPD vehicle impound lot nearby and several industrial plants the traffic situation for the residents of College Point has gotten worse.
If you're in flushing and haven't seen this facility you should definitely take a stroll over to it. It's massive. It's new and I'm sure the police recruits appreciate all the space they have.
