I almost don't want to bring attention to north woods because it is an oasis of calm in the middle of a crazy city. There are paved and unpaved undulating trails and you wouldn't know you're in the city because its so quiet with so few people. One of my favoured spots to run through when working out in Central Park

The North Woods is one of the hidden treasures of New York City. As one of the only places to get away in New York City, the woodland features beautiful ravines and excellent foliage in autumn.

Best part of Central Park. Yes. It's easy to just wonder into the bulk of the park where everyone goes. And for good reason. But, here is the park's gem. Paths up and down hills past streams with even mini waterfalls and rock formations and park wildlife. Don't forget to visit the old fort. The only one still around (except for Castle Clinton and it's sister on Governor's Island). And the Harlem Meer ans Conservatory Gardens are just a little walk west.

This part was supposedly to preserved what Manhattan looked like pre European contact that is why it is very mountainous excellence at its best

Great place in the park to escape the huge crowds in the southern part, and escape the heat and noise of the city. Great for running as well as it isn't as crowded here. How is this whole section uphill with no corresponding downhill though?
