Typical Japanese fare for a typical price. True, I can easily go into the city and find better sushi, sometimes at a better price (minus tolls and gas) However, it isn't easy to find this quality on this side of the Hudson. I've never been served rotten or low quality food (I can't imagine someone being brave enough to eat fish that smells rotten) and I can't think of any disappointments big enough to note in this review. East Japanese down the street is comparable, with a brighter and more casual atmosphere. Quality wise it's like comparing Five Guys and Shake Shack, you have your favorite but the differences are in the details.

I've seen a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant and a few recommendations from personal colleagues. That's why i decided to go. The service is acceptable, however the price and the quality of the food is complete and utter trash. Please excuse my language, but for the prices they charge, the quality of sushi should be a lot better. I ordered the love boat for two and ikura sushi. The ikura sushi was extremely salty. This indicates low quality as they need to add more salt to preserve the egg. The fish was not fresh at all. It exhibited the dull look of old fish meat. This can be attested to the smell. I could readily detect the odor of rotting fish; again indicating old fish. The taste was "funky" for a lack of a better word; off putting. The horse raddish was not fresh either. I honestly felt disgusted with my self for eating it, but i was hungry and i just shelled out 50 dollars for it! I honestly wanted to vomit. I went home and ate something immediately to get the rotting fish taste out of my mouth. The sushi is extremely over priced for the quality. 7 pieces of sushi for 21 dollars! Do yourself a favor avoid this place like the plague and go to East Japanese in Teaneck right off Teaneck road. You'll thank me for it!
And if you read the review below, keep in mind he failed to post his name. I am putting my name on this review thats how mad I am about this "hidden gem" as the previous reviewer puts it. I also can't believe he would belittle East Japanese as a "filler up sushi joint." This guy is obviously getting a pay check from Nihon Kai.

Fresh, yummy, direct from Japan. A bit pricier than other options nearby but you get what you pay for; they have lunch specials to circumvent this. Dining area is a bit too quiet, and you can hear others' conversations, but some may like that. Place is never packed and bustling, which I prefer (hopefully this place remains a secret). Service is friendly, but can be a little warmer. Doesn't warrant a minus star, though. Go to East Japanese (Teaneck) for quick fill me up sushi. Come here for the real deal.
