New York Sports Club

When i signed up for the membership last year i was told only 30 days notice is enough, but when i called up to cancel they said its $30 for cancelling and owe a monthly fee( which i'm aware of).My wife went during the last week of Jan to cancel the membership and was told there are some late fees and cancelling fees, when she said she wanted to talk to the manager, front desk told no manager available. This hide & seek game went on for couple of days. Finally when i got the manager number and called on Feb 2 to cancel, he says you should have come 1 day earlier to not charge the Feb month fees. On top of this they charged the annual fee which is $60(Non refundable), for the year that just started. Management itself is lacking customer service.Nightmare is not over yet, there was some problem with my card, and i was never notified abt the problem, and i didnt check my statement as well. I came to know that i was charged $15 each month as late fee, when i asked why was i not notified when there was a problem, manager said we cant call every member for a card issue.. but can charge $15 late fee without notifying the member

Been a member for more than a year. seeing a lot of welcome changes ever since the new manager took charge. for starters!! the place look lot cleaner than before and some new machines have been installed. hope to see more changes in the future.

Wow, horrible gym. I thought the NYSC in NY are bad, but this location brings a whole new word to bad. Weights from the 50's, equipments from the 60's, no towels, broken equipment, stinks so bad, bathrooms/showers in terrible shape, ignorant members, and more bad than good.

The Good
There is a lot of equipment especially with weights and strength training. Also offer a lot of classes (none of which I use) and I've noticed they're generally filled so I'm assuming they're worthwhile. Some trainers such as trainer Mike are really awesome because they lift the mood of the whole place when walking around.

The Bad.
The bathrooms are the worst I've ever seen in a gym.

It gets excessively crowded during peak hours. Sometimes, the trainers approach you making their sales pitch to people while working out. Its really annoying.

The worst.
The training policy has a minimum 6 months and they dont tell you when you're signing this tiny electronic pad. You'll be slapped with the monthly charges for 6 months and they'll say "you signed it!" I know for fact this happened with several people.

Why I am still there.
Because I was hit with the monthly training bill that i didnt know i would be billed monthly for and when I eventually do cancel my membership I'll have to pay my outstanding balance.

Do not go to this New York Sports Clubs or in fact any New York Sports Clubs. I was a former member who got personal training for a few months but ended the training in april. A few months later I noticed that they had continued charging me monthly for personal training that I had ended with my trainer which totaled to something like 280 dollars. I called the company to complain and they stated they would resolve the issue and get back to me. It has been over a month since that phone call. The people who work there aren't bad people but the management obviously doesn't care.
