For anyone who loves the ocean, rivers, or a lakes (but lives in NYC), you must go to Pier 40 (Houston St.) and check out the Hudson River! If you want to experience an amazing water sport you have to stop in and see Randy and NY Kayak Co. I recently purchased a 12' Starboard SUP (Stand UP Paddle Board) and rented a storage space for the board (very convenient set up!). If you haven't tried SUP make a reservation with a few friends on a Saturday or Sunday morning. You will get the hang of it in no time and want to continue doing it! NY Kayak also has the best selection of paddle boards and paddles in NYC. I went to a few other shops and they only had a few board and no one really new too much about anything. I've had my board for about 4 weeks and go out 3-4 days per week for an 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours. It'a an amazing water sport (work out) if you need an escape after a tough day at work (and it's much closer than going to the beach)! NY Kayak also has one of the best instructors on the East Coast (Mark Teme), he is a great guy and will get you up on the SUP in no time! See you on the river!

Randy runs a really great place! Good for beginners and experts, they run excellent tours, classes and certification. The instructors are BCU and ACA certified. Its the only dedicated Kayak store in NYC. Boat storage is excellent with 24 hour access and its easy to get your boat in and out.
