Very, very unprofessional hiring practices. Beware! These people are really nasty and the manager's girlfriend allegedly (per two other employees) felt threatened by anything female that walked in the door looking for employment. This was the reason, apparently, why I was not hired after slogging up and down hills in snooty rich neighborhoods where the doors were slammed in our faces continuously for 8 hours during my first day. In cold, damp weather in the dark?? They give you a "trial" employment period, basically you do the gruntwork for free and then they show you the door, regardless of your qualifications, experience, interest etc. These people honestly seemed much more interested in stroking their own egos than making a difference, which is sad and pathetic. I needed the job desperately, was professional, have more in-depth knowledge of environmental science and ecosystems than most of the people working there and was friendly, yet I wasn't offered the job because someone's girlfriend whom I did not even KNOW felt threatened by my existence? Furthermore, their canvassing strategies are absolutely awful. Thrusting clipboards in people's faces and rattling off the same robotic, dull spiel about why they should care about your cause is not an effective means of winning people over, and it's also outdated. Small wonder that they have such small dingy offices and can get away with being run so unprofessionally. I'm disgusted that such people have the nerve to call themselves activists at all. Furthermore, if they really were well-respected I don't think it would be necessary for them to advertise jobs on Craigslist nor would they be able to discriminate against a prospective employee based on gender and perceived attractiveness.
I'm so glad things looked up for me in the end and I ended up getting a better job in health care doing something that truly makes a difference and didn't get stuck with these losers getting paid minimum wage. I would never give them my money either, there are much better organizations out there.
