I have tasted three entrees: swordfish, trout, and shrimp which were all very fresh seasoned just right. The green beans were crisp but not too firm and also perfectly seasoned. The french fries were really great too! Raw clams on the halfshell were deliciously served nice and cold on ice with a full complement of condiments. For dessert I had a standard Key Lime pie. The decor is very homey. All around a most enjoyable evening!

We have eaten here many times and we know what to expect. The food is good, fairly priced, service is spread thin, but usually satisfactory and the place is noisy. Recently we ordered our appetizer and entries at the same time. Imagine our surprise when they brought them all to our table together. We explained to the waitress that we wanted time to enjoy our appetizer and please bring the rest of the food later. Less than 5 minutes later, they returned with our dinners, one of which was so cold as to be barely edible. We complained again to no avail. There was no offer of free dessert (which we would have refused) and no offer to adjust the bill.
Also they have a very bad habit of swooping down to remove empty dishes while the other person is still eating (which we do not permit).

Overall a quite bad experience.

- Terrible #62100
...wanted to bring my boyfriend to what I used to know as a great seafood place. He ordered flounder stuffed w/ crabmeat, but he got swordfish. We didn't say anything (but should have). In addition, he had the crab and corn chowder. We weren't thrilled w/ the food, but it wasn't offensive...until 3 A.M. when my boyfriend began vomitting uncontrollably. This lasted until 6:30 A.M.! We tried to e-mail them, but the address was no longer current. Sadly, this place, which was nostaligic for my family and me, was a nightmare!

We went to Navesink Fishery this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. We went on Saturday without a reservation and there was 35 minute wait. The wait went by very quickly as the front of this restaurant doubles as a fish market that offers cocktail shrimp. The shrimp were very good and fresh. The restaurant is also located in a shopping plaza with an A&P and a liquor store. As the restaurant is BYOB, we stopped by the liquor store and picked up a bottle of wine to accompany dinner since we still had time until we were seated.

When we were finally seated, we were able to try the New England and Manhattan Clam Chowder, the Fried Calamari with Cocktail and Wasabi Mayo Suace, the Chilean Seabass, the Seafood Saute and the Shrimp and Scallop Creole. Both soups were good and the clams tasted very fresh. The portion of the Fried Calamari was pretty small so even though it tasted good, I would not order it again. Out of the three entrees, the Chilean Sea Bass was the best dish. It was cooked to perfection and served with a Black Bean and Corn Salsa which complimented it very nicely. The ingredients in the Seafood Saute (scallops, shrimp and lobster) were all very good, but it was served over pasta with a sauce that was similar to a bland chicken broth. The same went for the Shrimp and Scallop Creole. The ingredients were fresh, but the Creole was closer to a Marinara sauce and served over pasta.

In conclusion, the seafood was all very fresh, but the items were not as advertised on the menu. If you do go to Navesink Fishery, I would suggest getting the fish as that seems to be what they do best. Another thing to take note of, is that at the peak of dinner service, the food does take a longer than normal wait. The wait time between the soups and calamari to the entrees was a good thirty to forty minutes. If we did not have the soup and appetizers and were more hungry, we would have complained. Navesink Fishery definitely has some of the freshest seafood out of all the places I have gone to recently. If you can look passed the slower service and stick to the fish, this is an establishment that you should not miss.
