I went to get new tires I'd ordered online put onto my car and was told that I needed new rear struts. The mechanic then showed me where on the car it was needed and proceeded to explain what causes this (naturally, because I'm a woman I don't understand these things); "but for $$$ I can fix it for you right away." I have a hard time saying no but mustered up the courage to say I'd rather stick to my original work order. I then called my mechanic who'd just inspected the car days earlier. I drove it straight to him to recount what Mr. Tires had told me and he said that they were full of it because he'd just changed the rear struts and all he was showing me was grease marks under the body of the car. Imagine! I saved myself $350+ by making the extra trip to my mechanic. Scavengers! No wonder they've stayed in business so long. I should also add that I went there only because the previous owner of the car had a receipt for work done there and when I'd gone to get my new tires put on, I gave their name but the rep told me they weren't in the system. Impossible considering I was referred by virtue of the receipts for work that the previous owner kept on the car. Sneaks!
