I don't leave reviews and when I do they are seldom positive. Through the years I've serviced my bikes with 4 of the top rated motorcycle shops in NYC and one very good one in Jersey. None one of them identified and resolved the problems I had like Motorcycle Works did. For one... I had dead rats and sh*t baking inside my bike and no one ever diagnosed it until I took it to Tom. Next, a reputable shop in Astoria was certain I needed a clutch replacement, I towed it to Tom and it was about a $150 fix. This is because he knows what he's doing and was able to diagnose exactly what the problem was. Earlier in the year I tried a shop on the upper east side that many people recommend, my bike was over revving and I thought maybe the throttle bodies needed adjustment. It seems they weren't sure what the problem was and charged me to adjust them, but I received my bike in the same condition as I gave them. Then there's the famous motorcycle shop in Greenpoint, the one that is notorious for their rudeness. I don't think they are as bad as the Internet describes them. There's a lot of entitled complainers out there and yelp is their outlet. At any rate, they might be the cheapest and fastest but you get what you pay for. For example, when the bolt in my KLR that held the battery in place was stripped (wasn't stripped when I gave it to them!) they just broke the housing open then bent it back in place when they were done.... THAT is what made the job so fast! Bottom line is, if you are lucky enough to have Tom look at your bike ( I waited 3 months until the end of the riding season) you will have a no nonsense expert take their time with your bike.... it will f$cking cost you! BUT! The cost of mis-diagnosing, erroneous repairs, your wasted time and replacing instead of repairing far out weigh what you will pay Tom to keep him and his small shop running. From my perspective, this is one of the few good motorcycle mechanics in NY. After seeing him in action, after getting my bike back in better and safer condition then I've ever had it, Tom can be as rude and selective as he f*cking wants. With that said, please note that I was respectful of him and his time and in return he took the time to walk me through my bike repairs and show me every detail of how he serviced my bike. No mechanic has ever done that for me before, this why I am so grateful and believe that it was worth every penny. I will continue to take my bike to him as long as his shop is operational.

Tom is awesome, great to find a local mechanic who is willing to charge you a fair price & do a great job. Added bonus that he will answer any question that you have, was very helpful & I learned a TON from a 5 minute conversation from him. My new go-to shop in NYC

An extremely knowledgable person, who is there for the care of your motorcycle, and not see it keep coming back to the shop to just make money off you! Highly Recommended!

Tom is a professional. He knows everything there is to know about BMWs and will charge fair prices on whatever job needs to be done. He's been efficient, concise, fair, and is an encyclopedia to talk to. My K75 will keep coming back here until it's final ride.

There is more to Tom, who has many 5 star ratings on here being praised as an expert mechanic and a stand up guy who really cares about your bike running well and safely. He is honest and is always looking to do the right thing. You can tell right away that he isn't trying to sell you extra parts or work that you don't need like many mechanics do. He treats the environment with respect, always using biodegradable materials when possible. What he does not treat with respect is every idiot who walks in to his shop looking to trick their bike out so they can terrorize the public with wheelies and burnouts and other unsafe conduct. He also will not show love to people who are looking to find the cheapest illegal way to keep their ratty bikes running, or those who want to hide their license plate under their fender type of mentality. When you come to Tom, you better come correct and you and your bike will leave his shop improved and smiling. I've learned so much about motorcycles from Tom in fact I'm surprised he doesn't charge me a teaching fee. Speaking of charging, if any one thinks that Tom charges too much, well you don't understand how labor compensation works. He works hard all day, getting each nut and bolt torqued just right preemptively solving future problems you will have on your bike while at the same time running a business single handedly answering phones, paying the rent, paying taxes, dealing with neighbors etc. He deserves to not be scraping the bottom just to have dinner tonight. His hourly rate for labor (I think its $95?) is not only well deserved, but I'm sure he needs it, and don't ever forget - you get what you pay for - and with Tom you get nothing but the best.
The first time I went to Motorcycle Works Ltd, I came in with my SV 650 with an electrical problem. He fixed the problem in record time, and when he took it for a test ride he adjusted the play of the clutch lever. When I got on my bike next, I could not believe how much better the clutch felt and performed! It felt like a whole new riding experience because of the 10 seconds it took him to make an instinctual adjustment, not to mention the fact that that adjustment surely prolonged my clutch life. This man is truly the bike whisperer.
