Classic, traditional "red-Italian". Nothing artisanal, nothing fussy. Loved the arancini (which they oddly called "fritters"). Baked clams could use more garlic. Great, basic gin martini was made with a generous pour. Pasta was al dente and did not appear to be precooked. Bucatini amatriciana was excellent as was a double cut pork chop. We ate on a lovely outdoor patio on a beautiful September night as well. Loved it and recommend highly. Portions were generous and we took enough leftovers home (because we were stuffed!) that I have dinner for tomorrow too. No quarrel with the price at all.

We sit down and are asked if we'd like tap or bottled water. We say tap will be fine and proceed to pour ourselves some water when it arrives. Only after taking a few sips do we notice that the base of the bottle is covered in mold. Then we order an octopus carpaccio dish that when it came out smelled and tasted like it'd been pulled straight out of the filthy Gowanus canal close to where the restaurant is located. Needless to say we will not be returning.

A go to favorite of my wife & I, pizza very good. Same can be said of the main courses and they were very good also. Drinks are well made by the barkeep and the service staff TRULY MAKES YOU FEEL WELCOMED.

The real stars at Monte's? The sangria and focaccia, made by the chef as you watch (love open kitchens). My pasta dish was really delicious, the service is SO friendly and I just loved the ambiance of an old school, real Italian restaurant.
Bring cash, as I think they only accept American Express, if at all.
