Montclair Township Animal Shelter

In December we adopted two adorable cats. They handled everything for us and gave us two pet beds along with toys. We are very pleased with Montclair Animal Shelter and their customer service was very good.

This one of the worst shelters I have evey been to. My daughter and I went to the shelter to adopt a dog. When we got their they said they had no small dog available, then a young man the was stand in the middle of the floor with 4 other younger adults said yes we do, he just went out for a walk. We waited for the puppy which was't long because they told us we can go upstair and look at the cat. We csme back downstair about 5 to 7 minutes later. The people from the shelter let us spend a little time with the puppy and my 7 year old daughter fell in love eith him... I brought the application back the next day on a Saturday. It was very busy filled with teen filling application to volunteer. I was took that I would be getting a call from them today or tomorrow. They never called so I called them Monday at 12am when they opened. A older woman answered the phone she was so nasty I believe she wanted me to loss my chill. They aslo tokd me no one else was interested in the dog. She said well the dog was adopted anyway so. I expelled to her that she said no one else had put in a application for the dog, then he said well they did. She was really nasty and disrespectfull They told me first come first served. In their cause I guess not. My baby really fell in love with that dog. I believe my skin color played a big part in it with her. So sad.. Now I have to explain to a 7 year old that she will not be goting the dog she wated....

I volunteer there almost every weekend and I just adopted my 3 month old kitten from them. Shelter has a great atmosphere and it's really clean. Highly recommend this shelter if you are looking for a pet.

Colin Reilly I am so sorry you can't understand why you were declined. As I drive through Essex County, I often see cats that have been killed by cars. Had their owners loved them enough to keep them indoors, they would probably still be alive. Thankfully, the Shelter declines irresponsible pet owners, like those who for some inexplicable reason think cats should be free to roam around the streets unprotected. Thank you MTAS, you probably saved the lives of the two cats lucky enough to find homes elsewhere!

I adopted a 1 year old maltese mix named Bam Bam from this shelter about a week ago. The facility was clean, and the staff were amazing. They truly care for the animals and look for the best loving home for these needy pets. You guys are wonderful keep up the great work!!
