We will never, ever, return to this store or recommend a friend. In fact, were the situation not so outrageous, we'd be angrier. In brief, we were told (not even through the intercom, simply mouthed by an employee at us through the glass) to "go away."
Backing up, the engagement ring I gave my fiance came from Michael Ashton, though was bought a number of years ago by my father as a gift for my mother, and in turn given to me. We planned to get the wedding band made in the same style by Michael Ashton, and cheerfully set off late morning one Saturday for a visit.
We arrived around 11AM, and rang the bell at their store, only to receive no answer. I saw an attendant milling around some of the counters, so they struck me as being open for business. I rang the bell again, after which the attendant looked at me with some disdain before mouthing "go away," not even giving us the dignity of answering the buzzer. We left shortly there after, chuckling to ourselves but also vowing to never, ever recommend this pompous, ridiculous store again.
As I have recounted this story, I've had it pointed out that perhaps Michael Ashton requires an appointment. If so, I can understand being turned away at the door, to which I would have taken no offense. I also feel it should be pointed out that were not dressed in a manner that indicated we were not here to do business (though that is a poor business model anyway, as there are the wealthy who dress poorly and the poorly who dress well).
Farewell Michael Ashton. One of the sapphires fell out of your ring that afternoon owing to what the next jeweler we saw called "a poor setting."
