We regularly drop off our laundry here and have been very happy with them. Be sure to give strict instructions about separation/temp if that matters to you.
Also, the ladies in the morning are awesome, they do all the work. Make sure they get their tips by tipping when you drop off (if you drop off in the morning) and not when you pick up!

I've lived all over Manhattan for 15 years and this is the worst cleaners I've ever used. They ruined a pair of $300 jeans and blamed me for not picking them up the day before (insane) and they refused to do anything about it. Additionally they are overpriced.

Good experience so far. They have their own equipment so don't need to send out.

For laundry, they do a nice job -- prices are reasonable by West Village standards (~90 cents/lb.) and they fold your clothes and sort your socks to simplify putting clothes away. I would caution that Mermaid uses industrial-strength drying machines, so if you have any clothes like cotton shirts that will shrink, I recommend you tell Keith (the proprietor) to "wash, but do not dry". You'll have to hang dry them on your own as Mermaid does not have the space to hang dry your clothes.
While I'm generally satisfied with laundry, I would not use Mermaid for dry cleaning. Almost all of my dress shirts over the last year have come back with foreign chemical stains on the sleeves or the back. I don't blame Keith as dry cleaning is done off-site, but it's clear the company he uses to dry clean cares little about whether your clothes come back damaged. I'm still looking for a better dry cleaner in the neighborhood.
Keith can come across as curt at first, but if you use Mermaid often, you'll realize he's a decent guy.

Brand new sheets still in their packaging came back covered in rusty marks.
When I took them back the gentleman said it was because his staff hadn't used bleach.
I thought that sounded strange and checked the washing instructions which said do not bleach.
I also asked him about a delicate top which had a food mark down the front and whether he had stain remover to get the stain out or if I had to go and buy my own.
He looked at me like I was stupid and said the stain would come out in the wash itself, snatched the top out of my hand and poured about two cups of regular detergent all over the stain. The liquid dripped all over the top and the floor, there was a massive amount.
The container of detergent he used was among those belonging to another customer at the front of the store and clearly marked with their name.
He also said that I did not have to wash my darks and whites separately, even though I had new jeans among the load which had never been washed.
