I called MCR air conditioning and Heating Inc. to come out to my new small business location and explained to them my A/C was not working and, being new to the space, I was not sure how everything was setup. I was ensured over the phone that this was not an issue and they would locate everything they needed and could do the job.
Once they arrived on site, the technician looked around for 15-20 minutes and could not locate the blower. He then went on the roof, took a few minutes up there, poked around at the condenser and stated that the entire AC and heating system would need to be replaced, even though the heater unit worked flawlessly all winter and before examining the blow/coils. I was unsure how he could draw this conclusion, however, he was the expert. So, I asked for a quote for this work, but have yet to receive one.
After being charged $150 for the previously mentioned “work”, I contacted my landlord, who assured me that there was a newer AC in my unit and that it should be fully functional. I explained how I had an expert come down to hook up the thermostat and summarized to him what MCR told me. He assured me it was there and even came down to show me where the blower was and try to help me fix it.
When meeting with the landlord, it only took a few minutes to follow the duct work back to the blower. I called MCR to ask not for a refund, but to see if they would do the right thing and take a second look at the system now that we knew where everything was and reevaluate my A/C problems. After numerous calls, I was told they would come back on the condition that I was charged again in full. I asked to speak with the manager or owner but was told he was busy, and that I would receive a phone back from him. I still have not heard from him.
After some investigative work, I discovered that the power to the blower was disconnected, and, once it was reconnected to the power, everything was up and running; a 20-minute fix. In summary, MCR charged me for an hour labor ($150+tax) after their initial visit, told me I needed a whole new unit ($10,000+), and would not re-examine their work despite my insistence, yet once power was connected, everything was working great! There were, in fact, no problems with the AC unit itself!
DO NO USE THEM! I spoke with another local business (who recommended them to me), and they, unfortunately, fell into their scam and purchased an entire new A/C system with them.
Side note: while on the phone with them, they told me they only charged me for half an hour of labor. However, on the invoice, it reads 1 hour of labor: $150+tax. If they are correct, and it’s $150 for a half hour, they will charge you $300 an hour for labor!
