McLoone's Pier House - Hoboken

Excellent staff. Terrible and overpriced food.

We came here foer lunch on a beautiful summer Friday afternoon and enjoyed our light lunch and delicious champaine sangria. Food was good and service was nice. We enjoyed outdoor seating.

I'm surprised this place still exists. I've given it 3 chances since it opened and there has been no improvement. I don't have the energy to write all that is wrong here, but it's a shame because the location is great and the staff are friendly. I never thought I would want Lua back after all the loud nights, but it turns out a restaurant that is too quiet is worse. I hope they see their flaws and fix the issues and they will be successful.

The staff was really nice, but the food was terrible. I was really excited to come here because of the location and beautiful view, but that's all McLoones is. It's a shame because they would have much more business if their food was better. The steak was less than warm and we had to ask the waiter to heat it up for us. Also, saying the dessert was mediocre is an understatement.

I'm giving it 1 star (barely)

First off - all of us in our group eat out quite a bit, are well travelled, execs, and we always get together in the city for NYE and make a night of it.

Friends of ours live a few blocks away and they had been to McLoone's for brunch a couple of times in the past year and thought it was decent (3 stars)

6 of us went for there for dinner in October and most of us thought it was poor (2 stars)

6 others of us went there on NYE (granted - not the best night to critique a place). Thought it would be a nice change from going into the city and they advertised dancing and open bar. We had a 9 pm reservation, we knew it was a buffet and we were fine with that. We showed up promptly at 9 - no table. First come first serve. People standing around eating off of whatever they could. While my girlfriend was going nuclear on a manager, I was trying to figure out what store might be open and what we could pick up, while our other friend was trying to get the charges cancelled. They scrapped together a table for us. 2 of us held onto the table while the other 4 went thru the food line. Came back 45 minutes later (no joke!). Food was terrible even by buffet standards. We didn't stay for dessert or dancing. We cut our loses and went home. My burrito at my company's cafeteria put my NYE dinner to shame.

So 3 stars for buffet, 2 stars from a couple of weeks ago, 1/2 star from NYE (cut them some slack only b/c it was NYE and we did have a couple of drinks).

I will never go back.
