I guess Marzullo's has changed hands. I first noticed it when I ordered our old favorite (for my son and I) - the Chicken Parm Hero. At Marzullo's it was a work of art. Guys at work would ask me to bring one in for them and they would happily eat it cold. Marzullo's used real chicken, great sauce and cheese, and great bread. I'm from Hoboken - the land of great Italian food - so I know what I'm taking about. The other night I ran in and got myself the Chicken Parm and brought it home. It was like eating the sole of a shoe smothered in sauce. The chicken was this thin piece of frozen, breaded excuse for chicken. OK, I thought. Give them a break. It was late, maybe they were rushed.
Tonight I was going to visit my elderly Mother and brought her dinner from Marzullo's. Again. She too is a big fan of the food. I ordered the Chicken Piccata and and a Tri-colored salad with dressing on the side (important when the salad needs to travel). In the past the Chicken would be excellent with a great side of roasted potatoes and vegetables. Way more then she could eat in one sitting. She would happily save the leftovers for the next day. When I got to my Mom's house I found they no longer provide that great side of potatoes and veggies. And the salad? Floating in the dressing that I had asked twice, and had the girl taking the order repeat - to put on the side. The salad was soaking wet and inedible. That went into the trash. The chicken was ok. Nothing special - nothing worth saving.
Its too bad. The place dished out great food. And again. Maybe its just a bad stretch. I'm not so sure. Someone should tell the new owners the old saying - "If it's not broken, don't fix it.
