Mr. Cheser recently represented me in a traffic matter. The judge was not cooperative despite an agreement with prosecutor. And despite the state trooper not responding to discovery requests. For this, I do not fault Mr. Cheser. That was simply my bad luck for getting a circuit court judge who feels he can be a hard line no compromise bench jockey who is not able to exercise reasonable judgement / accommodation. The end result was an immediate 14 day license suspension.
However, I was not able to get a postponement to consider my options because Mr. Cheser postponed the hearing for his own personal requirements in the original scheduled court date. Also Mr. Cheser failed to advise me in the beginning of my representation that I could possibly re-open previous traffic violations that had not been disputed; thus potentially reducing my outstanding points prior to my court appearance which could have avoided an immediate suspension. This was a critical omission that points to faulty legal advice and judgement.
Subsequent to the judgement and suspension I found that more points were assessed then was clear to me at the time of the judgement and Mr. Cheser did not return my call when I had questions regarding a procedural matter with the DMV to get my license restored. I had to call his office again and express my displeasure before being able to reach him.
While he is certainly a pleasant enough person as indicated in the other review. I would not choose nor recommend Mr. Cheser for further legal proceedings.
