I've been going to Mario's for over 20 years now. I can see where some might think the service is bad because don't expect them to be fawning over you at the table. However, the servers (Mario's family) are usually always polite and helpful. On some occasions Mario might come out to chat and he is always very friendly.
I may have had better meals in Manhattan for at a much higher cost, but there has rarely been a meal I've had there that wasn't splendid. This is the spot for my wife and I for celebratory and special meals. The fact that we keep coming back each year is testament enough.

bad service. Food ok but exceptionally bad service. Daisy's on Queens Blvd at 39th is better bang for your buck!

The food was only ok. The service is AWEFUL! waitress was so rude. We mentioned that the server was unpleasant. Management actually found a way to say, "well that's our staff."

We went here looking for run of the mill Italian food, wasn't expecting true authentic Italian food. Even with low expectations, we were greatly disappointed in the dishes. We had a pretty big party so there was a bit of everything on the table. The penne ala vodka tasted exactly like krafts mac in cheese made in a box. I live in Sunnyside and every time I pass this place I cringe. Will not, have not returned. Ps service matched the food...

The food is excellent. Dishes are individually prepared I think. Family run business. But the attitude is worse than the waiters at Peter Luger. I hope I'm not being mistreated because I'm a minority. The steamed mussels are great btw. Otherwise, Rude, Rude, Rude.
