Initially, I loved Dr. Jacobson and the staff at her office, but have since changed doctors. While she is a very nice person, my experience has been that she does not give details behind her and ALWAYS pushes to have me go to the hospital.
I was pregnant in Oct/Nov when the doctor noticed no developed sac. After a couple beta tests and transvaginal ultrasounds, she said it was not a viable pregnancy and I should look to get a second opinion. We went to a 3rd party after declining her hospital recommendation that would have cost us far more out of pocket and they forwarded the information to her. My best friend had a non-viable pregnancy at 5 weeks (same as me) in the past and opted to pass naturally. However in speaking with this doctor, she kept pushing for the hospital emergency room like there was something wrong. Another thing to note is that both times I saw her for an ultrasound, she was the only person who could not locate my right f. tubes which I guess is why she possibly thought it was an ectopic pregnancy. Both the lab technician who provided the second opinion and my new doctor who both have older technology had no problems.
What started to turn me off about this doctor is how forceful she was about a DNC or methotrexate and going straight to the emergency room. I had no symptoms that would cause a need for rush and she never explained other alternatives. This was not the first time she told me to get something from the hospital which makes me wonder if she gets a financial incentive to send clients there...I even called the hospital and spoke to one of the directors who said that they would not provide the shot unless it was an emergency, and they couldn't understand why this doctor was pushing for it so much....
It was already a frustrating experience to go through a m/c during the holidays with family visiting for an extended time, and I did not need this. I ended up changing doctors who is more personable and breaks things down instead of forcing a command. It has been over a month and I have since been happy. As far as my m/c goes, I am VERY THANKFUL I did not do a DNC or methotrexate because it passed within a week on it's own without complications. From what I hear from other physicians sometimes DNCs are risky for women who aren't too far along as the undeveloped sac (a clot in my case that was barely the size of a candy) can be so tiny you may scrape more than you wanted. I also found out the methotrexate tends to make women infertile for a couple months which was not explained to me.
The irony of this all is that the same day I went to my new doctor, I had to go back to Dr. Jacobson to get my rhogam shot (I pre-paid) which was given to me by a nurse. My husband and I never wanted to talk to the doctor as we had our first consult 30 mins later with the new doctor, but yet we surely received a bill for one from her office two months later. Coincidence that that was the same day I terminated my services...I'll leave that up to you. I called for an explanation on Monday along with a breakdown of the invoice (first time ever receiving a mailed bill from her office) and never got a response.
All in all, her office is nice and the wait is short. She is nice, but I don't like the push so much for the hospital. If I wanted to go there, I would find a physician there. I never had a doctor do that and am super thankful my current one does not.
