On the most basic level this is a grimy basement bar with a piano, but in actual fact it is a mecca for anyone with a love of showtunes. If you've sung Oklahoma in the shower then please go here. I did not have this love and many of the songs were completely unknown to me but if you can get a crowded bar to sing along to obscure songs all night long every night for decades you've got something worth seeing.

I am in the process of filing a claim with the District Attorney's office against Marie's Crisis for their overt discrimination and refusal of service against all "groups of straight women." A small group of friends and I were denied entry to this bar on the basis of sex and sexuality, both of which are protected classes in New York City.
To ever again patronize this venue would be complicit with discriminatory business practices and it should not be tolerated.

This place is absolutely amazing. Totally crowded. Noisy as hell. Almost impossible to talk. But still awesome. It seems like broadway musical performers come here after their shows to let loose and sing with friends; the quality is that good. Cash only. Drinks are cheapish. Service is a tad slow but with so much fun happening; who cares! A must-visit place for people who love musicals!

To Date, my FAVOURITE bar in the whole world! Showtunes, a piano and friendly staff with a cutting sense of humour. Also the best singers/crowd in any piano bar I have been to on Manhattan

One day, I wondered into Marie's and accidentally found my home away from home thanks to Jim Allen. I've met significantly talented, amazing and warm people that I will remember for the rest of my life. Ever since I moved from New York City I think back to the music and laughs (and genuinely talented) piano players...most of all of the superb friends I made there over the years. Each night is different and depending on who you ask in the city, people will either love or hate it, but it truly a part of New York, and it will be a part of me forever.
