At some point or other, we all face the same challenge: where do we take our cars, either for routine maintenance, or to get something major fixed? Take it to a dealer, and you might get taken to the cleaners; and, though most are, not all independent mechanics are both competent AND honest. But I found that Joe Manning, of Manning Imports, in Sea Cliff, N.Y., is both. Joe was recommended to me by my longstanding mechanic of 20 years, now looking to retire. He said of Joe, “He’s honest, and he and his crew do good work.” I figured you can’t ask for a better recommendation than that, coming as it did from a fellow mechanic who’s been in business for decades. In looking over my bill, which included all kinds of detailed work necessary to restore, and make road-worthy, a retired Ford Police Interceptor I bought at auction, a friend of mine, who knows a lot about cars, marveled at the relatively low price I got for the extensive labor that was done. To sum up, Joe is honest, friendly, and he and his crew thoroughly know their craft. My old mechanic was right: you won’t go wrong taking your car to Joe Manning.
