Perfect Pizza

We flew into LaGuardia and were delayed, so we were more than ready for lunch and we’d been talking about New York Pizza. So we did a quick search and Mama Carmelas popped up, 10 minutes away.
If you’re not from the area, it’s what I’d call a classic storefront pizza place, in the middle of a row of businesses (never did figure out where we were supposed to park), the pizza ovens and prep area is right there where you come in.
The owner/manager (didn’t figure out if he was one or both) was great, helpful and funny. We, alas, were rushed for time, so we grabbed some slices that he had ready. They were delicious! The crust was super, big and tasty without being gummy.
Had a bowl of soup, light tasty broth, excellent tortellini. Small loaf of bread served with it that was also excellent, wonderful crustiness, light and airy inside.
Hope to be back someday and have time to have my own pie made and enjoyed!
