Plate after few days, like DMV, over charge.

Came here to get plates on my new car and got quite and experience instead! Gave the nice lady at the front my paperwork and about 10 minutes later an elderly gentleman (I am being generous with that term here) came back with our plates and registration. $269 he said. I counted out the cash and slid it in the window. A second later my car dealer, who was with me at the time, made a half sentence comment about them charging too much. The older guy sprinted back, snatched the plates and registration, pushed back the money, and told us to get lost and go waste our time at the DMV. Apparently, he took offense, and there was no convincing him that nobody was serious. We told him it was a joke, the lady at the front tried to calm him down, but he wouldn't budge.

Now I understand him getting upset if we tried to haggle or argue or whatever, but I already paid - the cash was in the window, and the job was already done. Obviously he has the old Soviet mentality that as some low level bureaucrat he has power over people and everybody has to go through him and beg him for his services. Obviously that's not how it works here - I am not going to beg him to take my money.

We ended up taking a short drive to ave U and E. 12th, where we got our plates in 10 minutes. Ironically, this place only charged us $240 for the same job. Go figure. All he had to do is take our money, but now, not only has he lost my business, but my dealer - who uses these services all the time will never come back. What's more, this being quite a unique story, we'll make sure that all of our friends know.
