The former Bernard Downing Playground was renamed in 1985 to honor Luther Gulick, the "godfather of basketball" and co-founder of the Campfire Girls. The park includes basketball and handball courts, a children's play area with summertime water sprinkler and benches beneath London plane and pin oak trees, many of which have unfortunately been removed due to Asian longhorned beetle infestation.
There is a Downing Street Playground on Downing Street in the west Village, an entirely different location.
