Locals Surf School

These guys are the real deal. My instructor was Dillion and I look forward to working with him or anyone at Locals in the future. I think they're definitely going to help my progression. A++

Locals Surf School/Kids camp is awesome! My soon to be 5 year old son expressed an interest in surfing so we headed to Surf Camp. As a mom and an educator I was super excited for him to learn something new. However as a mom I was also a little nervous for him as I didn't know what to expect. Within minutes after arriving I was excited about our decision to go. He was welcomed into a large group and began to warm up. The vibe was extremely positive and welcoming. EVERY person that worked at Locals was kid friendly, personable, professional, knowledgeable and gave my son the best introduction to surfing I think he could have had! He liked it so much that we decided to go back for a second day. As I sat on the beach catching every second on film I couldn't help but to notice how much fun every kid and instructor was having. There was a great deal of instruction, a bunch of kids catching waves, but most importantly tons of laughter. It was such a fun experience for him. I also loved every second of watching him give it his all. If you are considering signing your child up for locals swim school I promise you will not be disappointed. My little guy will be going again next summer!

Locals surf school is THE place to learn to surf. The guys at locals dedicate themselves to their students and make sure the student to instructor ratio is optimal to get the most help and catch as many waves as possible! and thats the reason ur out there.

And its the perfect location cuz when ur wiped out from all the waves u caught u get to hang out on the uncrowded (unlike the other surfing beach which is a zoo) beach, play paddle ball, and enjoy the sun

The instructors and the atmosphere is fantastic. Super positive and definitely one of the nicer beaches in Rockaway. After a couple of lessons you can show up and rent boards from them right on the beach so you don't have to haul it from home.

I live in NY and ever since going to Hawaii in 2010 I have decided that I want to live there. Part of that vision, includes me learning how to surf. So imagine my delight when I find that I dont have to wait tillI move to learn!!! I met up with Mike & Mike for my 11am group lesson, and it was a great time!!! They were super patient, easy to learn from, and just had really good energy all around. Even before I got there, in the subsequent weeks, I had called with questions quite a few times, and they were always quick and willing to answer them! These guys are awesome on a level that exceeds my expectations. I totally recommend them to everyone!!! I may not have been able to stand up this time, but I did get to paddle out and ride back in on a board. The section of beach where they teach is way better than the overly crowded beach further down where most of the other people hang out. Can't wait to go back out and try again!
I recommend this for anyone who wants to learn how to surf, whether or not you're a beginner or a pro looking for new tips and tricks, and for all sizes & ages!
