I've been here many times and love it so much I try to take friends and family here. For the service is good, price is worth the portions, and I love the ambiance.

We visited the restaurant on 11/28/18 and found the food to be inedible. The appetizer's - the sambusa was burnt and the azifa was so oily and the lentils were under cook. It was like eating rocks. The entree - we had the vegetarian combo which consisted of the following 6 items: Tickel Gomen which was very oily, under cooked and had no seasoning; Aterkik Alicha was so old, it was brown instead of yellow and tasted sour; Misir Wat was so bitter and the spices were off. The dish was also old and not freshly made; The Ingudai Tibs and the Chickenless Tibs - were so oily and bitter. I think the spices were burned and; the Fasolia was oily. All the dishes contained an extreme amount of oil and the server said we would have to pay again to have the dishes corrected. We returned the food uneaten and left.

I like Lalibela OK, but it's true--they are very laid back about some things. Especially for lunch they are kind of slow to take your order and get water and stuff. Yes, there may occasionally be a small child playing on the floor. The food seems to have slipped from when I first went there 3-4 years ago, sadly. Bring some patience and some wine to sip. If you can catch them when they're open--they've been closed A LOT lately and maintenance of the space seems to be an issue too these days.

We used to be regular visitors to Lalibela. Used to think of it as one of the best vegetarian Ethiopian fares in the region (there are couple of others in nearby towns).
The food used to be great but the customer service was always questionable. But last night was the tipping point.
On arrival, we weren't even welcomed to the place and shown tables to sit. We ordered the Beyanitu (Veggie Combo) and picked 6 veggie entrees. Two of the entrees had too much salt. Now, we know how they usually taste but on this occasion they were over the top salty. We complained to the waiter who wasn't even remotely interested. We wanted to see the chef and his reaction was worse - told us that's how those dishes were 'supposed' to taste. And he wouldn't even acknowledge the fact that something is wrong with the dish.
We took off right then and there. The chef tried his half-hearted apology when we told them we're not coming back here.
