Amazing small dishes. Not your typical Japanese restaurant but reminds us very much of the kaiseki meals we had in Japan. The pressed sushi specialty and Hokkaido lamb are must orders. The sashimi is also excellent and options rotate depending on what is fresh. Great attention to detail goes into everything from the design of the space to the special plates used for each course.

This basement restaurant is usually rated as a very expensive restaurant but my experience has been that dinner for two with drinks was under $150. That seems very reasonable for a luxury restaurant in New York City.
The menu changes all the time. I tried an amazing soba soup, grilled chicken with miso and they where both incredible.
I left the restaurant satisfied but not bloated. A really nice experience

o show our gratitude to our amazing friends who hosted us for the month and a half while we were homeless (to sum up, we were in between leases for a month followed by many delays on the opening of our new home due to ongoing construction), Phil and I treated the two to thank-you dinner at Kyo Ya, one of our new favorite restaurants! The entrance is a little hard to find, with you having to go down a flight of romantically lit stairs in the east village. Pricey, but well worth it!

50 minutes from the order until n.6 pieces of avarage sashimi arrived. Other 45 minutes of waiting until n.2 pieces of crub arrived served with terrible row vegetables. 102 dollars (!!!) Completely wasted. The reputation of this place are a total non-sense.
