This is an excellent afterschool program; balancing time for homework assignments and time to socialize. A more relaxed atmosphere than the school classroom, kids have time to work and learn from one another to build the communication skills often lacking in today's children. No more fights with my daughter to finish homework assignments because it has already been done in the afterschool. Without exception, I find the staff (administrative as well as the teacher's assistants) to be responsive, friendly and generally decent people. The teacher's assistants (TAs) are high school upper classmen from top notch high schools or college students. They are bright, motivated individuals who stand as role models for my daughter. Every one of them impresses me.
I am also very pleased with their summer camp program. Keeping in line with their mandate to balance improving the mind as well as the body, they hold math and ELA classes in the mornings which are taught by enthusiastic, licensed teachers. (You would have to be super energetic and motivated to offer up your summer months to teach a bunch of new students after finishing up a public school year!) Then there are extracurricular activities in the afternoons such as sports, dance, robotics, arts and crafts, papier mache art, cooking, etc that are so varied and enjoyable that it was hard to limit my daughter to just selecting two activities. Equally wonderful were the campers' stage performances of hip hop, modern dance, fencing, zumba, singing, drama, Chinese yo-yo and Chinese dance. Summer camp has just ended for 2014 and my daughter has already selected which extra classes to take next summer!
Sincerely,
A grateful and proud parent.
