We stopped into the Key Club before a show at NJPAC, thinking we would get a nice dinner. I thought ninety minutes would be enough time, but the service was so slow that we didn't even get our entrees until 15 minutes before the show was supposed to start. They had three people at the bar, but only one server, so the poor girl had to attend to all the tables by herself. The kitchen is way in the back, so making the server run back and forth made for bad service. The food, besides taking so long, was cold (probably because it say in the kitchen waiting to be picked up). I ordered the Hawaiian Chicken dish. The chicken tough and dry. I mean, really bad. It came with unflavored rice and green beans. The green beans were sitting in water and tasted like they had been boiled for an hour. My date ordered the catfish, which was fine, but her macaroni and cheese side dish was cold. I've worked in restaurants before, and I can spot an overworked waitress when I see one, and I'm not the sort of person who would leave without tipping. But at this place the "gratuity" is included in the bill at 18% (yes, even for a party of two), so you're obliged to pay for the awful service. We were definitely not the only people there from NJPAC, so I imagine our experience wasn't unique. It looks like this place is trying to be more of a night club than a restaurant, and you could probably have a good time there late on a Saturday night. But don't go there to have dinner. I'll never go there again.
