I was referred to Kelner Periodontics by my dentist for a deep cleaning of my gums. This was necessary in order to complete a root canal. I was told by an acquaintance that it was an extremely painful procedure. I'm terrified of dentists and general cleanings, so I was not looking forward to my appointment to say the least.
When I went to the office for the first time for a consult the front desk greeted me with a smile and processed my paperwork with ease. They assured me that it would be a painless procedure from beginning to end. I've been told that by other specialists and dentists. Sorry to say in the past even though I had been injected with nova-cane I still felt some level of pain. Well I had my consult...no pain. They told me it would be a 2 visit procedure. Seriousness, I have to go through this 2 times?! Again I was assured there will be no pain. OK, again I've heard that before.
So with a sleepless night I go to my first appointment. Sitting in the chair with my hands clasped so tight I was truly white knuckling it. They did the initial numbing prior to the dreaded needle. Did't think that would work...usually they say it will be so numb I will feel only a little pinch, it never is a "little" pinch. OK so I'm overly sensitive. What ever they used I asked them to tell my dentist, because when I was given multiple injections to thoroughly numb me for the cleaning it really was only a "little" pinch. I sat for a 5 minutes give or take so I was completely numb. Right before the deep cleaning I was second guessing if I was numb enough and again I was told to trust them, relax and it will be OK. So I closed my eyes...let the cleaning begin! While saying every prayer I could possibly think of, I was told what was being done as they went along so there were no surprises or fear. When they were done about an hour or so later (to be honest, I lost track of time), I couldn't believe it. Really your done? I survived? You mean I didn't experience the worse pain of my life next to child birth? As I was leaving, all the people in the office that I had told I was so terrified of the cleaning, genuinely asked how I made out. They really did care.
So the 2nd visit was scheduled and there was no fear. The day of my appointment I was very late, and yet they still let me keep my appointment. They could only do 1/2 the procedure since I was so late and asked if that was OK. Or I had the option of rescheduling. I was extremely grateful and they were very understanding and gave me no attitude as some doctors offices have done in the past when your late for an appointment.
Third visit the cleaning was a repeat of the above. The procedure was complete and I survived. The follow up appointment was schedule.
My follow up was great. Again everyone in the office was terrific. I spoke with the technician and when we were done I actually felt like I just made a new friend. X-rays were taken and there was a problem with a tooth unrelated to the gum cleaning. Not the one that needed the root canal complete, which is why I needed the deep gum cleaning to begin with, but the one in front of it. I was told they would notify my dentist and forward the x-ray so my dentist wouldn't have to repeat the same x-ray.
Kelner Periodontics office was consistently professional, understanding of my fear of dentists, and very reassuring my experience there would be painless. If ever I were to recommend a periodontist hands down Kelner Periodontics office would without question be the one.
If you have a fear of dentists, periodontists, etc. DO NOT HESITATE, go to Kelner. I promise you, you will not regret it. You will be so impressed, you too will want to leave a well deserved review.
Sincerely,
Mary Wilson
