Stay away from Steven's. I've tried giving them plenty of business, some original settings pieces, a diamond resetting and appraisal, I recommended a friend to get his engagement ring there (although he ended up buying the diamond at Elsa's on Rte. 110 in Farmingdale), etc. but the deal breaker and the real "Steven's experience" happened the one day I brought in a solid 10k gold pocket watch that was a family heirloom belonging to my grandfather. It was and had been in perfect working order when I brought it in to Steven's to have a simple inscription engraved to give to my brother as a Christmas gift. A very sentimental, irreplaceable piece. When I went to pick it up, they had broken it. The spring no longer worked to open the watch and has to now be opened manually.
Mr. Steven Leibstein proceeded to blame me! He actually said to my face (not knowing this was a family heirloom) "we can't be held responsible by people who bring in items purchased on Ebay" WTF!! I stood there with my mouth agape until I could recover the sheer ignorance and insensitivity of this comment. And these people knew me as a local and multiple returning customer!
Here's where it gets far worse! THE WIFE! OMG THE WIFE! This piece of work comes out from the back and starts berating me! She yells over the counter at me "WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR THIS!!!??" "WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR YOUR BROKEN WATCH"!!? Lets see, Ummmm...well BECAUSE YOU BROKE IT WHILE IT WAS ENTRUSTED IN YOUR POSSESSION PERHAPS! She was like an animal! Her husband had to yell at her to get in the back and stay there! What a scene! That's her in the Google picture with the dog. The dog was more pleasant and well behaved! I was shaking and scared now! I didn't know if I needed to call the police! He'd ONLY reimburse me for the engraving! And out I went into the street shaken, upset, insulted with a now broken antique family heirloom that couldn't ever be fixed, never to return to this jewelry shop.
This husband and wife team are rude, nasty, irresponsible and money grubbing and couldn't care less how you feel walking away as long as they don't part with their money to make good on their mistakes. Stay clear at all costs. I learned in this day and age of online competition, you don't have to put up with people and service like this!
Thank you and I hope this experience helps someone make a safe and wise choice to go elsewhere with their business.
