This is a large, modern and clean facility. Most of the staff are helpful and caring. But unfortunately there are a couple slackers who can ruin your stay. They are so dim they smother skin with ointment then wonder why Band-Aids won't stay on. Many of the staff accept tips and gifts. And I think some of them go looking for handouts. I think that is unprofessional and unethical. They need to provide better security. Despite these issues, this place is still better than most area rehab facilities.

My husband was a patient at JDT/Villas. The facility is very nice and clean and you are allowed to stay overnight with your love one. However, although you can stay overnight with your love one, I was informed by the concierge or the social worker after the third night that I was not allowed to take a shower at the facility which makes no sense at all. I said to the person, "why allow overnight guess and deny them from showering"? She had no rational explanation. I also informed her that I did not see that in the handouts that I received. It makes no sense to allow overnight guess and not allow them to take a shower. That is an inconvenience especially if you are far from home as I. Also, the food is horrible and they constantly get your order wrong and get an attitude when brought to their attention. They definitely need to get a better chef that knows how to cook food appropriately. I feel sorry for the patients with no teeth or the ones that wears dentures because some of the foods that they serve is as hard as brick. However, if you can withstand the food, the environment of the facility and the staff is very good. I give a special shout out to the nurses on the third floor, James, Will, Diane, and Vanessa. A special shout out to the CNA's, Sari and Wadia. These two ladies were
excellent and always displayed a very positive and caring attitude towards the care and well being of
the patients.

My husband was in JDT Rehab after a stroke. The care he received couldn't have been better! He was cared for 100% as an inpatient, in PT, OT and speech. There are not enough words to express our complete satisfaction in JDT's medical staff. The food was excellent! The $10.00 buffet was delicious and the staff warm and friendly. Thank you JDT for the excellent care that my husband received. You earned 5 STARS from us!!

If I could give this place NO stars, I would. This place is lipstick on a pig. The place looks nice but other than a private room, there is nothing positive to say. The staff seems inexperienced, overwhelmed, and overworked and you're not assigned the same staff everyday, which leads to constantly repeating yourself and inconsistent care. They nickle and dime you for everything! Who knew to check to RENT a recliner for your room, if you don't you will either sit in your bed, a wheelchair, or a regular wooden chair. The house doctor NEVER visits, just PA's. They consistently disregarded dietary constraints and the food is horrible and dietary has an attitude, they don't care. DON'T go to the $10 buffet, it's disgusting! There in NO consistent wifi bring a portable and the cell service is "iffy", you WILL have to rent a phone. They messed up on medicines, even though they were told by the patient, family members, and the chart from the hospital what the prescriptions were. Nurses didn't even know common over the counter medicines and family members were told to go to the pharmacy and buy it to bring in. The patient preferred water with no ice, they constantly brought ice and family members were told to bring in cases of water! The PT, although very nice, are overwhelmed with patients, same with OT. They also see outpatients, so there is competition. There is NO security, you can easily enter the back door and not one person paid any attention and the parking situation is horrible. Plenty of empty reserved staff spaces but few visitor spaces. There is NO chain of command, no nurse advocate.Your only point person is the social worker who is not always available. Ours just graduated college and was covering 2 buildings. For discharge, there is NO flexibility, an exit interview is "required" by the social worker, however, it HAS to be done between 10-3 because staff leaves at 4:30, so you have to take a day off of work OR have a conference call during work. The only single elevator is very slow. PS. there is another one at the end of the floor but it is only used for staff. As a post-surgery orthopedic patient, you are encouraged to walk but the staff will not allow you to walk alone. My family member was there due to a fall, they said she couldn't walk because she had a "fall risk" bracelet on her wrist....seems pretty contradictory. An xray was prescribed by the doctor before discharge. The service comes from Staten Island and they will send the xrays to JDT only. You have to go to JDT to pick up the films and report. They do not go out of the way to accommodate the patient. She was supposed to be there 1 week and wound up there for 4. GO ELSEWHERE and don't be fooled by the pretty brochure...it's like the Hotel California.
