If it weren't for the great views of the skyline in the distance, you'd think you weren't in New York City limits. They have binoculars available for bird watching.

I visited JBWR and it's a bird sanctuary with more than 330 avian species living over a variety of habitats, along with other native wildlife. Here I went to a gorgeous sunset tour, and took an amazing hike.

Jamaica bay is the greatest place in New York City. I bike there all the time and it is a wonderful experience, especially for people who have never been to NYC. You can see the city in ways you never thought possible, and you can get a glimpse of what the New York region was like before it was developed. It is not only a bird sanctuary, but it is a haven for many different creatures that live in marshlands. There are even nests for birds such as hawks and eagles. If you have never been, it is worth the trip.
