My mom just turned 90 in January. I brought her to IAL last year after spending (4) years in a much more expensive facility on Long Island. She had been withdrawn and depressed for a very long time. However since the move to IAL she has become an active member of the IAL community. Something I thought would never happen. She is now alert, friendly and involved. I need to personally thank Sam Horawitz, IAL Facility Director, for mom's wonderful turn around. Sam is a hands on guy treating the people under his care as his own family. That attitude transcends down into his entire staff. Whether its the nurses or aid assistants or the administration everybody is friendly and professional. Knowing my mom is in good hands at IAL helps me sleep better at night not needing to worry that her personal needs are being attended to on a daily basis. That's a wonderful reassuring feeling.
Thanks Sam! Steve Tomaselli

I can tell you from first hand experience that this place is not what you want for your loved one, unless you really don't care about them. From the administration to the food, everything is a disgusting disgrace. The administration will lie to you and promise you things that they can't fulfill. They impose their beliefs on the residents by making them eat kosher food that is not even good enough for dogs. So many residents can't tolerate it and end up having diarrhea or being constipated because they end up eating peanut butter and jelly for dinner. The med techs are corrupt beyond belief, I can't fathom how this is allowed. They have made several mistakes by giving a resident the wrong medication. On several occasions the medication supervisor has withheld meds just because she was annoyed by them. The supervisor and the other med techs have put several residents in the hospital due to careless error. The doctors that they use are from the bottom of the barrel and cannot be trusted, no one can be trusted in this facility as a matter of fact. I could go on and on about how terrible and God forsaken this facility is, but the point I am trying to make is that no one should ever have to live the rest of their lives in a place like this. The elderly decline so rapidly in a place like this it really is a sin. Island needs to be taken over by the state or shut down.

Island Assisted Living not only extended the years of my mother's life but improved her quality of life as well. After my father passed away, my mom started to decline physically and became increasingly isolated in her own home. From the initial tour, through the application process and move in day, everything went smoothly. Concerns which developed while my mom was still on her own such as good hygiene, laundry, and meal preparation are now taken care of. My mom has always taken pride in her orderliness and cleanliness. She is feeling like herself again with assistance with showering, clean folded laundry and housekeeping. She feels better again because she has her hair and nails done regularly at the facilities beauty parlor. Meals are served in the spacious and attractive dining room. The weight my mom lost when she was on her own, is back up again to a healthy point. My mom who has always been a social person is now in this environment which lends itself to chatting and making new friends. The facility offers programs, activities in the building and trips. My mom especially enjoys the movies, monthly birthday parties and recently called me sounding thrilled from the holiday party she attended. She went on and on about the endless, delicious food and the continuous live music. She appreciates the frequent outdoor trips to stores, restaurants and summer music at parks. I appreciate the secure and safe environment. There is always someone at the front desk requesting visitors sign in. After a certain time of day the doors are locked and residents and visitors must be buzzed in. The religious preferences of residents are recognized with religious services. Medically my mom is taken care of with medication management, some medical professionals staff, and coordination of medical appointments and transportation as needed. Staff is pleasant. Upper management is approachable and responds to the concerns of residents and family members. At this time when even the most caring and devoted families cannot always take care of their loved ones needs, and at this time when people are living longer but not always able to attend to their own needs, Island Assisted Living is a welcome option. At this point in my mother's life, she and I are grateful to Island Assisted Living.

My mother has been a resident at Island Assisted Living for the past six months.
In that time she has been thriving both mentally and physically.Due to the care and attention that she has received, her entire demeanor has changed.
The staff at every position is warm, caring, and always respectful. The facility is
bright, clean and well designed for senior living. My family enjoys our visits to Mom and her new friends have become ours as well. The activities and services are well designed, executed and varied...there truly is an activity for everyone and plenty of places just to relax with her friends.
She enjoys her beautiful room and always has assistance when needed there.
From the first time I visited Island Assisted Living, very soon after it's opening,
I sensed that it was perfect for Mom.I now have to say that it has exceeded
even those expectations.

My mother has been at Island for over a year and I could not be happier with the care she has received. Her aide is extremely zealous in her concern for her grooming and assistance with bathing..Andrea knows my mother and has been consistent and loving. Her room is always clean and I know how often the laundry is done because I see mom getting new blue bags all the time. The food is very healthy and the treats at snack are delicious. Last time they served hot apple pie! I know everyone on the staff personally from Kevin and Leslie at the desk and Bella and David, and I cannot say enough about Patricia in medication dept., as she and I have worked closely with the doctors to get my mother on a balanced combination to improve her physical and mental health. She feels like this is her home because everyone there acts like family.
