I-House is a weird and wacky, yet somehow enjoyable, world unto itself.
In my two years living here, I was both maddened by my fellow residents at times but also pleasantly surprised at the daily positive interactions that could be had as well. You always have to be "on", meeting and greeting people. If you're not a people person, this place ain't for you. To be fair, quite a few seemingly "non people" people lived here when I did- part of what made it so intriguing.
As for the physical accommodations- the normal resident rooms are tiny. I was certainly unpleasantly surprised when I first moved in to see the size of my room. But to counter that, I had a great window view overlooking a beautiful, quiet section of Morningside Heights, and was a five minute walk to campus, and a comparable walk to the 125th St. 1 train station.
If you go to Columbia or any of the nearby schools and are considering I-House as a place to live, I'd recommend it. Even if you end up hating it, you won't forget it.

The I-House has a nice and outgoing community. Prices are okay as well. Despite some minor weeknesses overall a good spot to live.

One of the best experiences I've ever had. I-House is a rich, multicultural community representing students from over 100 different countries.

I just moved in. ihouse is fine, but the guy called Gabriel in the ihouse 'Public Safety' is so unprofessional and rude.
When ask them that one of newly installed microwaves (by ihouse of course) in lounge area does not work properly, can you guys come and fix it? He is like 'S**T YOU GUYS CAN NOT HAVE MICROWAVE IN ANY LOUNGE AREAS, I am not fixing it, I am removing it.'
Management should train their employees before coming to work and at least in a better manner. This guy does not even think and deal with things in his way.

I lived at International House for 2 years, way back in 1975-1977. I attended the Manhattan School of Music while there. I. House was an incredible place to live. I made many new friends from all over the US and the world. I socialized much more with I. House residents than I did with Manhattan School students. I had a room on an upper floor on the river side of the building which gave me a wonderful view of the Hudson. I will never forget my years at this great place. A native Texan, I had always wanted to live in New York. I can't think of a better place to have spent my first years in that great city.
