Its a great school

As a student there today, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE SCANDALS!!

They do not happen anymore. I wouldn't believe it had happened in my school if our headmaster hadn't pulled an assembly to discuss the issue.

I must live on another planet. All the positive reviews do not take into account the perverse atmosphere which had been cultivated for generations. I attended Horace Mann back in the 60's when a new music teacher was hired. I observed his musical pedigree, quirky ways and temper. His choice of music was so, so serious (THE VOICE OF THE TURTLE IS HEARD IN OUR LAND) and in my humble opinion boring for anyone of high school age. I confess I am not surprised by the accusations. And it does not stop with the music teacher alone. The emphasis and traditions seemingly have not been on the development of the individual, rather it is of the protection of the school's reputation and its endowment. There is no mention of the root of the problem and that is the leadership of the 60's forward. I hear no mention of the beloved former headmaster whose leadership and hiring abilities obviously were lacking and whose concerns seemingly were about guarding the reputation of the school at any costs. .

I made the choice to go to Horace Mann and the atmosphere reinforced the idea that I had made a mistake. I read the abuse allegations and am saddened, but not surprised. But then again I majored in DETENTION! !

I am continually impressed with the excellence of The Horace Mann School in every way. The academic program is stellar and the athletic enthusiasm infectious and the arts invigorating. Most importantly, my daughter started ninth grade (after starting there in 6th grade) and I am thrilled to see her smiling more than ever!

One of the best schools(and in my opinion, the best school) out there. The teachers are assertive but are comforting when they need to be. The general atmosphere of the place is amazing. The faculty, teachers, even the students are generally supportive. The campus is expansive, making it a little hard to get from place to place, but the school tries to set up your classes to be as close as possible. The classes are pretty small; the average class size rounds to about 10-12 people. Unfortunately due to complications with grades, I had to leave the school last year. It wasn't my choice, but it was probably for the best. The workload is a little much, but the refiner's fire makes the perfect blade. Don't let the recent scandal fool you. This place is amazing; even with a dark past, it seems to have a bright future.
