People do public sex acts here, not often but it's obvious when it happens. As long as you take your kid to the playground you'll be fine

Considering and rating this park with regards to its condition and what it offers, this is essentially a forgotten public space. The play ground is actually renovated and is in quite good condition. Outside of this playground area, the park is in very poor condition. The waterfront walkway has been closed for years and it doesn't look like it's going to be fixed and opened anytime soon. The 'upper grounds' of the park is completely disheveled as the stairs and asphalt are uneven and crumbling. To my knowledge, there is no statue or public art to be found in this park.
The only thing your guaranteed to find is members of the community walking around silent, alone, and swinging their arms to complete some sort of stretching routine like yoga zombies.

My Dad & Uncle grew up on 7th Ave., College Point, NY. Dad was born in 1929, and saw many changes in his lifetime. College Point was changing from a beach resort to a living community.
As kids in the 1960's and 1970's, we always enjoyed a visit to our grandparents in NY. The Herman A MacNeil park was always a highlight. We would walk to the park, past many grand old houses. Our family and my uncles family would gather at the park and play on the swings and sea saw. Dad and uncle would attempt to teach us stick ball. We watched the Twin Towers being built from the Jersey Turnpike and the park. Would watch the planes fly by from Laguardia Airport.
I have many good memories of this park.
