My husband and I have been going to Dan for many years and we've always been very happy with his service. We've recommended him to many friends and family. Unfortunately after the experience we've had over the last 10 months, we can no longer recommend his services.
We just found out that Dan didn't e-file our taxes on time this year, although we had our appointment in March. We've now been hit with a nearly $1000 penalty fee from the IRS. He never told us he would be filing late, there was no reason for him to file late, and we never gave him consent to file late. We've reached out and left multiple messages to find out why our taxes were filed late and have gotten no response.
Additionally, Late 2014, we received an assessment notice from NYS. We immediately forwarded this documentation to Dan. We spoke to him on the phone about this situation no less than three times and re-sent the documentation via email twice. In late March 2015, I spoke to him in person at our tax appointment about the assessment and physically handed him the documentation. Dan repeatedly assured us that he would handle it. We trusted him because we've had a professional relationship with him for years and he never gave us reason to doubt him.
In April 2015, we were in the midst of relocating overseas for my husband's job and also refinancing our home. Imagine our shock when our lenders alerted us that a tax lien had been filed against us. We wouldn't have been aware of the lien for weeks if we didn't happen to be in the midst of the refinance process. We immediately satisfied the lien. I called Dan in a panic. I called multiple times throughout May and sent emails. All of my outreach went unanswered. Our refi ultimately fell through because of the delays in closing caused by the lien.
Finally in mid-June, Dan himself happened to answer the phone and finally was forced to take my call. He had no answers for me, but requested that I put everything into an email, assuring me he would follow up. I never heard back from him. Last week (now September), my husband reached out in hopes of gaining some clarification on how to obtain a lien satisfaction letter from NYS and how to potentially repair the damage to our credit. Dan acted as though this was the first he had heard of an assessment or lien, claiming that I had "never broached the topic with him". His only guidance was to direct us to the NYS Dept of Taxation website. He assured my husband that he would follow up to answer the rest of his questions. We still have not heard back from him.
When Dan first began ignoring my calls, I was legitimately worried about him because this behavior is so out of character for him. Now, I'm just confused as to how a well respected professional could behave in such a way. Never mind being completely unapologetic about the havoc his inaction has wreaked on our credit, but he has taken to outright lying. When this whole debacle first began, we reached out to him for guidance on how to proceed. Our only expectation was that he would either make an appeal because he disagreed with the assessment, or, if he reached the conclusion that the assessment was correct, advise us to pay it. I just can't wrap my head around why he assured us that he would handle it if he had no intention of doing so.
We're now left to deal with the consequences, but hopefully our story can at least protect someone else.

I am sorry I can't share the same happy experience with everyone. Since switching over to Dan as my taxman I've only experienced nightmares with the IRS. The worse unprofessional thing that happen this year is that Dan did not send in my E-file to The IRS which he filed since February. We are now at the end of June, if I did not call IRS, I WOULD HAVE NEVER KNOWN THAT.
Would not be going back there again, that's for sure........ UNPROFESSIONAL

I have been going for over 35 years, and Dan and his team the best around. They handle a lot of men and women in the medical field they are always on top of the latest changes to the IRS code, which is a lot. They are so good that now I am retired and live in New Hampshire and I still go to him every year. And because I live in NH he is up to date and anything effecting me by the IRS code.
