Haym Solomon Nursing Home

I’ve had nothing but a pleasant experience here. The staff in general is very nice and professional. There’s always a bad apple but any issue that came up was taken care of and dealt with immediately. There are 2 people in particular that you should get to know- David the assistant administrator and Jordin one of the CNA’s if she’s still there. Made my transition here very smooth. I’ll miss them and the others!

the physical therapy here is fine.the food is redundant and uncreative. much of it is of little nutritional value. but,the physical therapist who worked with my wife told me she didn't need a decent walker to go home with.
the walker they use in the facility is light and flimsy. it would easily be knocked over with a collision with a baby stroller or shopping cart. it weighs very little and is of no use in the street with people walking,rushing,looking at cell phones,talking on cell phones. this therapist had the nerve to say the decent walker provided by medicare was the WRONG ONE and the flimsy piece of junk was better. now this therapist is not paying for anything,yet she thinks its up to her,to say what the needs of my wife,who just had a hip replacement and also has bad kneees, should walk in the street with,after just 3 weeks of therapy. if anyone saw the piece of junk she wanted to give her,they would be astounded. Medicare provides for a decent walker if you had hip surgery. why should anyone at Haym Solomon refuse to assist a person who hasn't walked normally for months,and just had surgery 3 weeks ago and tell her the flimsy piece of junk they use inside the building is good enough for concrete streets filled with people walking everywhere without looking where they are going,
this therapist has convinced my wife that the piece of junk they have is the right one for her and she refused to order a decent walker for her. this is outrageous.

This place has not changed much from when I worked there in high school. I visited it for the first time in years the other day because someone I know works there and I had to pick them up. Still has the musty smell and angry residents (and hilarious too). Brought back a lot memories, mostly good but I still would never want to end up in there when I get old.

Although the rehabilitation room was well equipped, the resident population far exceeds the number of therapists, so residents spend more time waiting for services than receiving them. The rest of the day is spent in a depressing activity/dining room where residents are, again, more populous than the 2 or 3 nurses assigned to assist them. My mother was left sitting in a wheel chair for most of the day, in the same location (so was everyone else), wearing the same clothes nearly everyday. Her spirit was extinguished as her body weakened. The food was not fit for anyone to consume and offered little nutritional or palatable value. One woman undressed as a nurse stood by and did nothing. A very depressing experience.
