One thing with their management. The first time I called to make an appointment they recorded my phone wrong, which is an ok mistake. However after calling 3 times and giving them the correct number, one expects their records to be updated.
Secondly and more importantly, the repairman comes, I take him to the basement to show the washer. He opens the lid, touches the inside, immediately says that the brakes are permanently engaged and he would need to replace the whole brake system, which is $390. And I ask him to please wait so I can tell my girlfriend to come down. But no, instead, before 2 minutes he rings the doorbell in front of the house, saying that we should call him if we want to do the repair while going for his car.
I get it. You may be an expert technician who is able to understand what is wrong from the sound the machine makes, and by simply opening the lid. And the price for this visit (basically saying that the fix price is too much, I know you won't call me to fix it, so I need to run away as if a coyote is running after me) is $55.
He induced no confidence, how am I to know that he is not a 'not-repair-person' going to houses for 5 minutes at a time, telling them the fix is this exorbitant price, and collecting the $55's instead of spending the time to repair? Right now I have no idea if the brake problem he talks about really requires the whole brake system to be replaced as he suggests, or replacing some parts of the brake is enough. I cannot fathom how that level of specificity is possible. In fact he was not specific at all, I think he may have just declared the whole brake system corrupt, instead of opening up the machine to see if it is a simple part in the brake system needs a fix. All this doubting might have gone away with some time on his part, and perhaps a smile.
This repairman is apparently subcontracted, so I expect that your experience with Harrison Appliance Repair may be radically different. Mine was thoroughly disappointing.
We called Harrison Appliance Repair to complain, and he (not the manager, which is strange for Harrison Appliance Repair) called us back basically to tell us that we cannot complain. And we have no right to evaluate his expertise, and he doesn't have time because there was too much traffic. Not to mention hanging up on us. His name is Scott, but he refused to give his last name even after we explicitly asked for it.
