Its the first Hare Krishna Temple, so contains lot of significance to the followers of Gaudiya Vashnivism, a branch of Hinduism. The temple is small, but ambiance is peaceful, but enthusiastic for spiritual seekers.

This is where the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON, began in 1965. His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada came here under the order of his guru to spread the teachings of Lord Caitanya in the Western countries. New York city is world re-known. Srila Prabhupada thought "if the people of New York take to Krsna Consciousness, then the whole world will follow". There are now temples and chanting of Hare Krishna in every country of the world.
