My 3 year old daughter started attending Grow with Us in the Fall and I was not impressed. She was attending the half-day program receiving Speech and OT. My older son also receives Speech at another location (Highbridge Advisory) so I have a reference to compare the progress.
First, let me start with the poor professionalism. This includes the staff, communication, etc. The first problem I had I encountered while attending a parent-teacher conference. When I go to look at my daughter's work, cubby, chair, etc. I realized that her name was incorrectly spelled. It wasn't just a letter or two, it was COMPLETELY WRONG. Her name starts with an S but the name they had started with a Z. When I mentioned it to the teacher, she was so lax about it and would change the subject. Before I left, I had to take the name off of her chair and cubbie and request that it be replaced with the right spelling of my daughter's name. How is my daughter supposed to recognize her name when it's incorrectly spelled.
Also, I didn't see enough progress in my daughter. After 9.5 months of attendance, she just started showing how her speech development. In the beginning, she wasn't doing some of the things that most kids do when they attend school and are learning, such as singing songs, color recognition, etc. When I visited the new school that I'm putting her in (Kennedy), the kdis were already tracing letters.
A huge pet peeve of mine was that as I am trying to potty train my daughter, the school is calling me requesting that I send diapers in her bookbag. When I didn't send a diaper, she would come home with someone else's diaper. I finally got her potty-trained but it took longer than it should've and the inconsistency caused her to be so confused that she would have spurts of times when she would be fine and then she would go back to having accidents.
My most recent complaint had to do with a phone call that was received yesterday. The school calls my home three weeks into the summer session to ask how my daughter is doing and why she's been "MIA". My husband replied that she was scheduled to attend the 10 month program, not the 12 month. After checking and confirming, the two females that he spoke with were both trying to flirt with him...and it's not the first time. What is that?!
I gave them two stars because in the end, she did learn something. However, had I known better. I would never have registered to attend this school.
P.S. and don't even get me started on the horrible bus company that they use (Selby)
