Greenwich St. Jewelers

Greenwich Jewelers helped us find the perfect engagement ring & wedding band! They were so friendly and helpful!! The staff went above and beyond to help us with this whole process. They are just amazing!! In addition to the wide selection of engagement rings, they carry a wide selection of everyday jewelry!

The short version: If they had their act together and didn't stress me out so much for these exceptionally expensive purchases, five stars.

The good:
I bought an engagement ring and wedding bands here. They're a nice little boutique-y place, have good taste in jewelry and have fair prices. They are genuinely nice people and want to do well by their customers. They will give you a fair estimate to help you get your piece ensured. They even provide beverages on site to help celebrate the occasion. They take care of the place and keep it clean and attractive, which is nice for a neighborhood that looks more like the bottom of a well-worn shoe in a third world country.

The bad:
All that being said, they are clearly stuck in the 20th century. They have a ticket/receipt model for service and pickups. Their response to emails and telephone calls is dismal. If you don't make an appointment, and if it's not completely empty in the store when you drop by, expect not to get a word in edgewise. Plan to do all your follow-up in person and with an appointment. Oh, and expect way more email advertising than you'd get from your travel agent.

Went in to get a wedding band resized. My situation was complicated and difficult to explain (previous jeweler had worked on it). They listened to me and adjusted the size to what I needed after playing detective to figure out what the last guy had done. It all took about 25 minutes. Wouldn't charge me anything, even when I insisted! Very nice people!

I came in to get a damaged ring fixed - the centerpiece was visibly off center. They told me it would take two weeks and it would cost approximately 150 (including a slight resizing and polishing as well)

Today was two weeks later, and I came in to the shop only to discover (and yes, everything takes literally 10 minutes waiting at the counter - you can tell the time by the readout on their burglar alarm behind the counter) that the repair was not actually performed, but the sizing and polishing was.

Their excuse? "Its not written down on the receipt"

I am really underwhelmed by a jewelry shop that sees fit to ask you all sorts of personal questions to pass the time, but can't be bothered to write down the most important reason for the visit.

I had explained at great length to two separate shopkeepers on my initial visit that I wanted the ring repaired, but I did not realise that I had to supervise their note-taking.

Furthermore, it is amazing to me that either their master jewler did not notice the glaring dis-symmetry (the center stone is practically drooping from the center) in the ring, or deemed it unnecessary for a follow up call to see if the ring should be fixed or not.

Now I have to wait another week+ for the ring to be ready, and pay twice as much as I was originally quoted.

This is not how you retain customers.

Update: Shop owner Jennifer did reach out to smooth things over as much as possible, and actually refunded all charges by telephone, so at least this ended on a positive note

Time to lower the skew on their ratings since the employees are incompetent here.

I think that they forget that buying jewelry is business transaction between two parties. Don't get caught up in the excitement of buying jewelry.

1. Went to purchase a custom ring
2. Employee screwed up the process by not collecting the right information
3. Employees repeatedly wasted my time but not knowing their manufacturers customization process
4. Thus unnecessarily delaying the process
5. Due to their stupidity, I dealt directly with the artist/manufacturer
6. The business repeatedly tried to inject themselves into the conversation with the actual jewelers and wasted everyone's time
7. Went to pick up the engagement ring and the clerk couldn't find the ring. I stood around waiting for these clowns to figure out where they put it for 10 minutes
