This is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon. There are lots of green spaces , interesting historical sites, reenactment, tons of food trucks and incredible views. Particularly the views from the newly-built Hills are stunning. As a longtime New Yorker it was particularly amazing to see the city from that perspective. makes you realize how special of a place New York City is.

Beautiful and scenic. Great place to go and just get away from the city. Whether you're alone, with you're spouse or want to go on a close and cheap family getaway for the day. Feels like you're in the country. Lots of interesting historical things to look at. Over all enjoy my visit here.

I love Governors Island and the fact that New Yorkers get to visit it for free every Summer. The ferry ride is quick and lots of fun. There is plenty of room for bikes and strollers, just get there early. There are always different events happening every week, so check the calendar. They just opened up the new slide area and have a working farm now. Bring a ziploc bag because they give away their herbs.

If you're in nyc and have never seen governor's island, go out here asap. The island is an excellent local getaway, good for views, walking, biking, culture, history and more. Just grab a ferry downtown and 5 minutes later you're there. They're only open during the summer, but the island is sizable - 172 acres to explore. If the weather is sunny, this place will be stunning.

Great getaway from the city by ferry. Here's a hint. Take your bike. You can bypass the long line for pedestrians on the ferry. But, you can also just rent a bike there, it's not a very big island, but it's VERY relaxing with great views of the city and Statue of Liberty.
