I am an eighth grade Gifted and Talented students who has been attending this school for three years and overall, I would say that this school is wonderful, although there are sanitary issues. Imagine having three tests in a day and not having clean place to sit in calm. The teachers that work in the school strive hard for their students to do exceptional and perform good, especially on the regents and NYC State Tests. In order to help us, the teachers give up their lunch periods so that students can come up and practice/study for any upcoming tests or any skill that they are confused on. In my opinion, there are teachers who stand out to me more than other teachers such as Mr. Edelman(humorous math teacher), Mr.Wansor(cranky old man who tells amazing stories and collects a variety of insects), Mrs.Govier(the most sassy math teacher you will ever find), Mr.Teehan(a comedian who my class loves), Mrs. Marino(Punk Ela teacher who loves lifting weights), Mrs.Fleri(has a nice collection of books for students to read for throughout the school year), Mrs. Monte(a social studies teacher who is chill but has a low temper), and of course my awesome homeroom teacher,Mrs.Hagestien. In addition, the stuff members in our school are extremely kind to students, either if it’s in the lunch room or while we are passing from one class to another. Now the kids in 119. Most of the kids are nice and respectful to others and their teachers, although there is a certain group who act “ratchet” but that’s just my opinion. Our principal is always engaged with school activities especially the fundraisers that homerooms hold and turn out to be successful. Thus, your child should definitely attend this school for amazing opportunities, especially if you plan on making your child take the SHSAT, for the teachers prepare some of the math concepts in class!

School's disgusting, just like the lower ranked gen. ed. and SpEd kids. My class is okay though....

This school is actually my best one yet, although there are a few downers. I'm currently an 8th grader at this school, and a graduate student. There are some teachers who treat their students like their own, and care sooo much. You see, you can make really great friends and be happy there, and there are some classes in which you'd actually enjoy. And now for the cons... if u go into the cafe, and idk if u would, but if u look under the table tops, its messy. It's filled with lots of chewed gum and wrappers, and floors are sometimes sticky too. Also, pictures are taken on picture day in the gym, and it takes up a lot of the gym period, which means you don't get to have much fun, and surely upsets some people... but that doesn't really matter as much as the great things that have been going on. Here I stand, today, and maybe its a little early, but i would like to thank my 7th and 6th grade teachers for all they have done for my long middle school life. Ms. Govier & Ms. Puterbaugh for helping me enhance my math skills greatly, and giving me push-ups when i needed them. Ms, Grady for being very motivating when it comes to reading and practicing important skills. Ms. Marino for being fun. exciting, cool, and a teacher that is like no other, to me like a friend as well as a teacher i will never forget. Mr. Wansor for being kind and a comedian, especially when it comes to not having ur work, he does get mad, but he shakes it off later, u just need to get on his good side and ur good for the year. Ms. Matundan for being a spark in the biology field for me, someone who helped me know better about something that i would need for my career when i grow up, a teacher that is also very lenient towards everyone. Mr. Teehan for being very creative, although with some minor spelling errors and definition errors in his presentations. He is the rap star, and if u were to challenge him to a rap battle, u would be gone as soon as his 1st blow. Thanks to Coach Dudin for his humor in robotics & gym and thanks to Ms. Wei for her supreme Mandarin skills. :^) I say that this school is good for everyone, as long as there is no terrible situation that the child creates. ):)

I'm a Gifted And Talented 7th grader currently attending I.S.119 and in this short time, I’ve seen growth in multiple aspects, as have my parents and teachers. At school, I've mastered the material that needs to be learned and the teachers here helped me see the importance in all the efforts I've put into my education, and with this comes time management. After seeing all the kids in my class who've been able to reach the same goal as mine, it’s impossible not to be inspired. The teachers don’t just teach you the material, they motivate you. Every teacher works extra hard to help you understand everything you need to and more. They go above and beyond to prepare us. By doing so, they are able to help you toward gaining a spot in your dream school, and attaining high scores. When enrolled in this class, you could see all the work they've put into you, and in the end, you can see how all the efforts have been worth it. The environment overall is pretty nice, compared to other schools in the district. The kids, for the most part, are very friendly and well mannered, you just have to know what kind of people you should hang out with, as the same goes for really, any school to be honest. The teachers, as I've mentioned before, are absolutely outstanding at doing their job. I especially recommend Ms. Govier and Ms. Puterbagh for constantly trying to help you improve your math skills and going out of their way to assist you, Mr.Wansor and Ms.Matundan, for being really understanding and accommodating whenever a student needs some extra tutoring or help (they have afterschool programs), Ms.Marino, who not only I love as an ELA teacher, but came to know as a best friend or so you could say (She has tattoos, a rad taste in music and fashion, has awesome trapeze skills, and is SUPER sarcastic and funny-Who wouldn't like her?) , Mr.Teehan, for always trying to come up with creative and fun ways to learn History, Ms.Grady for being very encouraging when it comes to working on your ELA skills, Mr.Dudin for having a sense of humor and simply existing and being there to teach us Robotics, Ms.Wei, Ms. Deangelis, and. King Memos. The faculty and staff are awesome too. For example, our principal, Dr.Feagan is always coming up with ways to make our school a better place. Recently, she's been promoting the idea of students making a change. So, from bake sales, to fundraisers, to simple donations or charity drives, she permits it all and we raise about an average about $250 for each. My morning meeting class (Homeroom) arranged a program where we collect recyclable bottles and turn them in for money we can donate to St.Jude's hospital. So far, we have raised about $283 and it's fun and we all enjoy it. So, I guess that concludes my review, I TOTALLY recommend this school for your child. As long as your child doesn't create problems, there shouldn't be one. All I can say is make your own decision and hope for the best :D
